Madison was a twin to her sister Morgan Brooke. Over time we noticed that Madison could not keep up to her sister and was not achieving the expected milestones. She had severe hearing loss, required cranial molding, suffered from hypotonia and had lower body Cerebral Palsy. Fortunately she was accepted in a feeding clinic that assisted her with eating, as she had been G-tube fed since she was 11 months old. Madison was undiagnosed & therefore was considered "medically complex". Being undiagnosed & developmentally delayed caused many issues with insurance coverage and qualifying for treatments. We were fortunate because Madison had a mother that never took "No" for an answer and continued to fight and challenge the medical field until Madison received the treatments and support she needed. Madison made progress at her own pace but always in the right direction. One day Madison did not seem herself and ended up in ICU last September. Her body developed what seemed to be a virus that shut her liver down. Multiple tests were run but they could not identify the cause. Additional internal organs continued to slowly shut down one by one until she passed away a week later after putting up a courageous fight. Madison was only a few months shy of her 5th birthday. Madison was a special child that touched every person's heart that ever met her. She had an amazing personality and an unforgettable smile.
The foundation in Madison's memory is to give aid & support to children and families in similar situations with an undiagnosed condition. In our case we were fortunate that my wife was able to fight the continuous challenges we faced when seeking approvals and qualifications to ensure a child is a candidate for various treatments. There are times that these children do not qualify for services and are declined. The foundation hopes to assist and aid those children that might not get the same opportunity and support that Madison had.
